This is a sought after service, as most people are dissatisfied with the more old fashioned methods of package tracking, and are looking for a more up to date and reliable method of finding out where their deliveries are at any given time.

Because of this, any company which does have GPS tracking capability is likely going to use this as one of their key advertising point, so you will usually have no problem at all finding out if this is something a courier that you are interested in is offering.

GPS tracking can be great, especially if you're shipping all over the country and need to keep track of your shipment flow for one reason or another, but you will usually end up paying for it one way or another. A courier might compensate for the added costs of using GPS technology by either having a higher base rate, or by adding a GPS tracking surcharge. Couriers have to disclose all surcharges to a customer, so be sure to ask and see if this is the case or not.

The courier company that you want to look for is one that hasn't raised their price at all despite adding GPS shipping to the features that they offer. Not all companies will do this, as they will feel that any added cost on their part needs to be countered by a rise in their fees. Other companies however, will see that GPS tracking is only going to work wonders for bringing in new customers to the company, and so will avoid raising their prices in order to ensure that the new technology as a marketing tool has the maximum effects.

GPS tracking is nice for many reasons; however, you should stop and consider that it probably isn't really what anyone would deem an essential service while shipping. It is certainly important that your package reach its destination quickly and in good condition, however, having GPS tracking and knowing exactly where in the country that your package is at every moment isn't likely going to make it get to its destination any faster.

The biggest asset of this kind of tracking is that if a mistake is made it is usually caught quicker and easier to correct, but it certainly won't prevent any package from ever going astray.
